Indulgent Weekend High Tea at Tea Lounge, Regent Singapore Hotel

📷

Celebrating my friend's birthday

Soft, soothing piano music, cushioned seats and warm lighting make Tea Lounge, Regent Singapore Hotel one of the most ideal places for a leisurely afternoon tea with good friends. The lounge exudes an atmosphere of relaxed elegance and one can’t help but bask in the warm, inviting setting.

The lavish high tea buffet featuring premium teas and a bevy of finger sandwiches, tantalising main courses and freshly baked pastries is extremely popular. It is difficult to secure a seat for the Weekend High Tea Buffet, you will need to book at least two weeks in advance. The Tea Lounge used to be a favourite hangout for expatriates, however, there has been an increase in the number of locals dining there recently.

Although I have been to Basilico at the hotel several times, last weekend was the first time I tried the high tea buffet at Tea Lounge. We celebrated a good friend’s birthday and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of the food. Most of the items were memorable, except for a few mediocre ones. However, on the whole, I must say that I was quite impressed with it.

We started our gastronomic indulgence by tucking into the cold appetisers and salads such as smoked mackerel, salmon and Cajun tuna, duck salad, duck rillette, roasted Portobello mushroom, feta cheese and turkey ham on seven grain bread, roasted beef and green asparagus with truffle cheese on brown bread and poached prawn on spicy fresh mango tart.

I like the smoked Cajun tuna as it tasted very fresh. The poached prawn on spicy fresh mango tart was lovely too, the prawns were tasty and complemented well with the diced mangoes on the tart.

Assorted cheeses

There was also a delightful selection of assorted cheeses at the buffet counter, which was irresistible.

Unagi sushi

Japanese aficionados will love the delightful selection of California maki, tamago and unagi sushi. The baked salmon with herbs was well seasoned and was a pleasant treat for the taste buds. At the live station, diners with carnivorous appetites will be dazzled as the skilful chefs delicately slice the succulent wagyu rump in front of you. Help yourself to delicious Yorkshire pudding, a classic British favourite that goes well with roasts.

The laksa station

Those whose taste buds are inclined towards local food will be bowled over by the aromatic and rich laksa prepared à la minute at the live station.

Decadent chocolate cake

Take your indulgence up on a notch by savouring the glorious ensemble of desserts such as lemon meringue tart, wild strawberry éclair, assorted macarons, cheesecake toblerone, pistachio and cherry tart, Mandarin orange jelly, chocolate cream and cream puff, rainbow cake, scones and hazelnut daquoise.

My personal favourites are the crunchy and delectable hazelnut daquoise and the refreshing Mandarin orange jelly with a medley of sweet and tangy notes.

Lovely Marshmallows

Marshmallows and chocolate is a combination that will never go wrong, a pampering treat for the young and the old.

A final highlight is the freshly made crêpe at the waffle and crêpe live station. You can choose your condiments and sauces such as maple syrup, fresh cream, chocolate sauce and fresh blueberries and blackberries. The titillating desserts provided a sweet conclusion to our indulgent gastronomic adventure.

Overall, The Regent Tea Lounge is a place that I would recommend for a lazy afternoon with good friends. It offers an extensive spread with both local and Western favourites. The experience would be even better if the waitresses were a little more attentive. However, the charming ambience and tantalising food made up for it.
