Nestled along Mohamed Sultan Road (formerly occupied by Madam Wong), The English House opened its doors in September 2018. Adjoining two beautiful restored shophouses, the restaurant specialises in British classics and comfort food.
The English House is UK Celebrity Chef, Marco Pierre White’s first venture into Asia. With lush foliage at the entrance, it is akin to entering a private home. The interior is relaxed yet elegant, blending eclectic British flair with Singapore’s local colonial charm. It is evident that Marco has a passion for interior design, bringing his own personal vintage collections into the restaurant.
Made with Carrara marble from Europe, the tables and chairs are inspired by Marco's favourite chicken rice shop at Purvis Street. Be enthralled by the numerous artistic pieces adorning the walls including photography works by esteemed photographer, Terry O’ Neill and illustrations by famous cartoonist, Raymond Jackson (JAK).
Following the success of The Sunday Roast, The English House has launched its Weekend Breakfast Menu (available on Saturdays and Sundays).
The all-time favourite is none other than the Classic Eggs Benedict (S$20) with poached eggs, with a heavenly drizzle of rich Hollandaise sauce.
We love The English House’s rendition of the Traditional English breakfast (S$25) featuring sunny-side up, crispy toast, succulent sausages, mushroom, bacon, fresh tangy tomato and fluffy crumpet (small griddle cake made from an unsweetened batter of water or milk, flour and yeast). The portion is pretty substantial, giving us our energy boost for the day. Those with a heartier appetite can request for additional accompaniments including Grilled Pork Sausage, Free-ranged Egg, Homemade Buttered Crumpet, Fresh Avocado and Crispy Bacon at S$6 per item.
There is also a Children’s Breakfast Menu with nutritious creations for the little ones including Cold Cereal with Milk (S$10), Boiled Eggs & Soldiers (S$10), Sweet Organic Porridge Oats (S$10), Scrambled Eggs & Bacon (S$10), Fresh Fruits with Yoghurt and Nuts (S$10) and Warm Crumpet with Peanut Butter and Banana (S$10). Our son, André Aaron enjoyed the Fresh Fruits with Yoghurt and Nuts as it is refreshing and tantalising.
Overall, The English House offers a decent breakfast selection and I am sure you can find something you like.
The Weekend Breakfast is available from 8.30am to 2pm on Saturdays and from 8.30am to 11am on Sundays.
