East 8, located at the ground floor of Grand Park City Hall is a New York style tapas bar offering East Meets West fusion tapas. It is a stone’s throw away from City Hall MRT and its central location makes it an ideal place for working executives to hang out after work.
The name came about as the bar serves Asian fusion cuisine and is located in the far east. 8th Street is an area in lower Manhattan in New York City which has many Asian restaurants and the number 8 also denotes luck in Asian cultures, hence the name East 8.

The setting is industrial chic with the use of bricks and metals. Although the bar is small, the ambience is cosy and makes one feel relaxed the minute you step in.

Appetising A.L.T
The menu is not very extensive but I must say it is pretty decent for a bar. For a start, I recommend going for the A.L.T (avocado and lemon on yellowfin tuna chunks - $16). The tuna was very fresh and refreshing and the lemon added a tangy flavour, helping to pique one’s appetite. Tuna and avocado go very well together and, the combination of citrus, savoury and creamy flavours was just awesome.

Smoked salmon carpaccio
The smoked salmon carpaccio ($17) was delightful with apple, pickled sweet onions, radish and capers finished with lemon oil and crushed pistachio. The sweet, citrus, sharp and nutty flavours were melded into a harmonious symphony.

Portobello fries
The portobello fries ($16) were fried to the right crispness and accented with light hints of truffle. The roasted garlic aioli dip gave it a more intense taste. Perfect with a beer or a cocktail.

Miso Chilean seabass
For something healthy, go for the miso Chilean seabass ($24). This style of cooking is popular with the Japanese. It was dexterously prepared with miso and wine and accompanied with shimeji mushrooms. It was a lovely creation with well -balanced textures and flavours.

Soy yuzu beef
The soy yuzu beef ($21) was also tasty and tender with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency enhanced by the citrus taste of the soy yuzu sauce.

Lobster dynamite
Lobster lovers must not miss the signature lobster dynamite ($29) which consisted of lobster tail baked with mushroom crunch, ebi caviar and creamy melted cheese on top. Judiciously seasoned and baked to perfect succulence, every mouthful was a burst of divine goodness.

Molten lava peanut butter and chocolate cake
For something decadent, go for the molten lava peanut butter and chocolate cake ($15) accompanied with French vanilla ice cream. The sinfully rich flavours will captivate your taste buds and leave you enraptured.

Enjoying the cocktail
East 8’s cocktails are also very interesting, with popular favourites such as Nolita Lychee Saketini (a concoction of sweet lychee and dry sake - $16), Sake Sangria (refreshing sake based concoction with crisp apple and citrus blossoms -$16/$42) and East Village (consisting of sparkling jelly sake and fresh raspberry with a hint of sweet peach - $18 for a pair). I love the East Village as it is light and fruity and not too overwhelming.
East 8 is located at 10 Coleman Street #01-21/ 22 (facing Hill Street), Grand Park Hotel City Hall, Singapore 179809. It is open from 12pm to 11pm on Mondays to Thursdays, 12pm to 12am on Fridays and on Saturdays, it is open from 6pm to 12am. The bar is closed from 3pm to 5pm and the last order is at 10.20pm.
